I love this sport for so many reasons… But one of the greatest qualities about competitive cheerleading is the opportunity for  ”teaching moments.” The GREAT performances demonstrate the value of hard work, perserverance and how incredible it feels when the ‘team” finally comes together. And the “not so good”  moments… Well, they show us what we’re really made of…How do we handle losses, mistakes, disappointments? We can either let them get the best of us, or we can ”own” them, move on and become stronger because of them. I believe that our athletes ALWAYS choose the latter and is why no matter what the results show… We Train CHAMPIONS!

She went on to say, “I love how they all cheer each other on and all the people get so excited when they get it. That’s what I want for my daughter.”

This conversation MADE my night. After a pretty tough practice at the gym, for an outsider to recognize and appreciate how hard our athletes work and what it means to them was AWESOME!

Being a champion isn’t always about bringing home 1st place. Sometimes it’s about how you take defeat or adapt to change or adversity. Sunday, EVERY single girl in green showed us all what a true champion is… All five teams were amazing!!! You all should be proud- Sammy Cavallaro, AP Dad.

GSSA NOR CAL CHAMPIONSHIPS December 10 & 11 is a post from: Athletic Perfection Cheer

In addition to the Full-Year teams showcasing their 2011-2012 routines, our Pre-School Class, Half-Year team and Experience the Beat Dance Class performed. The athletes all had a blast showing off their new skills.

I was SO impressed with the turn-out of spectators. We had a FULL house. It was packed! So awesome to see the support the athletes have from  their family and friends. Oh… and GREEN towels were a HIT! Can’t wait to see them @ the competitions.

ALL of our FULL-YEAR teams will make their competition debut on Sunday, December 4 @ UOP, in Stockton. This is like playing on our “HOME” field. Hope to see lots of fans @ this event so close to HOME!

Getting Ready for Competition Season 2011-2012 is a post from: Athletic Perfection Cheer

Gym owner Julie Van Os said that the annual rally is a chance to show parents the type of routines that the girls have learned and will bring to at least a half-dozen competitive events. Every year the gym brings back national championship banners, and Van Os expects that 100 competitors, including girls ages 5 to 18, will live up to those accomplishments.

“All of our teams won a national title at some point: class champion, best choreography, best stunt team, best tumbling,” she said. “All of our teams are better than they were last year, which is exciting.”

Athletic Perfection owner Julie Van Os said Silverman’s Powerful Words program is a way to get her students to focus on how their activity at the cheer gym is part of their overall character development.

“We’ve always tagged ourselves as teaching more than cheer, tumbling and flips,” she said, adding that a “powerful word” — “diligence,” for example — will be the gym’s theme each month.
